Used Car Scams

It may be very tempting to buy a used car at an online auction site. There are incredible deals, some even offer to ship the car to you for free. Used cars are one of the biggest fraud items on Ebay and other auction sites. Once you send off your money by Western Union, you will never see your money again. There is no way to get it back. Maybe you think that you will be safe using an escrow service, but scammers run escrow services as well.

You really are safer making a purchase at a dealer. Large dealers depend on their reputation to make sales, scammers don’t. A private seller may want cash only, this is very dangerous. People that offer a substantial price knock off for cash should be avoided at all costs. They probably couldn’t even take a cheque. Stick with dealers who you know will be in the same location next week or next year.

Always do your research on a car before you buy. A history check is essential. Make sure the VIN number on the paperwork the VIN on the vehicle.

Remember, if you see a deal on a car way below the market value, it probably is a scam. There are good deals, but no fantastic deals. Expect to pay a fair price and you won’t be disappointed.
